Not everyone thinks what you are thinking. Its all about perspective. All though it failed to impress me, I have come across an interesting perspective recently . While the guy is not supporting Mangalore (Thank god! ), he wants to play it down and doesnt understand the HYPE and why are we calling these "goons" as "terrorists". After all terrorist is someone who comes with an AK-47 and shoots you down ;-) (according to him, not me). As far as I understand, the incident did not Hurt his freedom nerve yet!

My respective comment in Red
1st part
"The sheer scale of the number of dead in the various blasts of 2008 is enough to ensure that terrorism from across the border features at the number one position on India’s priority list."
They have not killed anyone today, cz we are not completely talibanised yet. A little encouragement, or little inaction from people/govt/police against them and these people will gradually make another Taliban out of India, dont you think so?I mean, the idealogy sounds pretty much the same. They have no respect for women, they cant digest the fact that women can be as free/independent as men.
And once that happens, we dont need outsiders to attack and kill us.Our very own people will start killing us in the name of culture. And trust me, if that happens, they wont limit themselves to women. Any god damn reason like pre-martial sex ( its not in our culture- SUPPOSEDLY), and bang!
I am not saying its gonna happen soon, but why move in wrong direction?Ofcourse they are comparable to terrorists.Just because there were more dead bodies in Mumbai today, is no excuse to not have a comparison, dont you think so?
"Moreover, terror acts are meticulously planned, extensively prepared for and then executed with a monstrosity and fanaticism that only believes in the piling up of dead bodies irrespective of religion, caste and creed."
I dont care if it is planned or unplanned. Terrorism is Terrorism, and they did manage to terrorise the gals India-wide. Here it was ir-respective of caste/creed/religion, but 'social equality' as per preamble also has the word 'sex'. This attack was against women. I hope we both agree on this one.dont we?
"Then how does Mangalore feature in this category? Or is the Mangalore incident yet to be completely disclosed by the media and there were indeed a lot of girls slaughtered and raped to death."
Again the same logic, there were no bodies TODAY! if we walk in that direction for a lill while, you wont be left with this justification soon.
"What is required is to deal with all wrongdoing rationally and at its magnitude of occurrence along with other factors like fatalities involved and degree of violence engaged in."
Correction --> What is required is to identify the problem that could become a much BIGGER PROBLEM and has the potential to create MANY MORE FATALITIES in future and kill the problem right when you see it growing. If only Kashmir was taken much more seriously in 1990.
Its high time, we develop a futuristic approach to problems. What kills me is India is particularly bad at it and has no intention of improving.

His reply to my comment, in Blue again
My reply to his reply, in Red.
"I certainly doubt whether any fringe elements have the powers that the Taliban enjoy in the Afghan-Pak axis."
Ofcourse not, Taliban was a government in itself.
Allthough Ram-sena is not as powerful as Taliban today, but it does enjoy political support. Their MOTIVE is to gain power in the name of same-old HINDUTVA concept.Dont you see their intentions??Its a very simple logic. WANA GET POWERFUL? EASY!! MAKE OTHERS FOLLOW HINDUTVA ( concentrate, you have to make OTHERS follow it, it doesnt just involve minding your own business and following whatever you want to!!) even if that involves violence.
Just for you information :- I just dont hate Ram-sena alone. I also hate VHP,Shiv Sena, Abhinav Bhart, and all other kinds of sena.I hate any organisation that wants to divide India for political gains. And notice all of the above are POWERFUL. And they do disturb the day-to-day lifes of many. They all have TERRORISED people before and will continue to do so.You will soon see it on 14th feb if you live in pune/mumbai. ;-). I have lived in Pune before and I know, how i wasnt even allowed to enter my college that day.My Fav Archie shop on MG was vandalised, and NO ONE was "brought to BOOKS". A Library was burnt, because it had A BOOK which had something against Shivaji and no one was "brought to BOOKS".
By the way, latest news reports, 1)Ram sena has issued a FATWA-LIKE-WARNING against any gals wearing noodle straps.
2)Ram sena to force couples into marriage if they are found dating on 14th Feb.
Hmmmm...smelling Taliban yet?No? Cant help it then.;-)!
Well, ofcourse they are moving in that direction!
"I certainly do not believe that we are moving in the wrong direction."
You dont belive Mangalore was a wrong direction??? Really?
"There is enough progress around me to be cynical because of the acts of a select few."
Look, i am not being Cynical.I am loving the fact that India is growing. But my heart refuses to Ignore Mangalore, for the excuse that GDP is gonna grow at 7% this year and grew at 9% the previous.
"But terrorism, in its wholeness, is too extreme and the largest threat to not only the people but even the sovereignity of the nation as a whole. Hence, to call Mangalore as terrorism is absurd."
Ahhh..and Mangalore did not hurt the SOVEREIGNITY??..India is Internally and externally sovereign!! This one hurt the internal sovereignity of the nation.you dont think so? I refuse to be governed by few goons who cant mind their own business. Not only did it hurt SOVEREIGNITY, it hurt DEMOCRACY, SOCIAL EQUALITY, HUMAN RIGHTS. How does Mangalore sound now ;-) ??
"Of course I do. Women are equal to men. In no respects do they deserve what happened in Mangalore. My only point -> it's not terrorism. Not the terrorism that killed 2765 Indians only upto 2006"
Look, you are stressing on count of dead bodies. Basically, do you wana tell me, you are happy, that you are alive and you dont mind your freedom going away as a compromise??? I feel suffocated! I dont want OTHERS to DECIDE what should i wear, what should i eat, what should i read, what should i watch. I am in so much LOVE with my freedom, that i refuse to Play down MANGALORE. I dont refuse the fact that MUMBAI was one of the worst attacks in history. I am not comparing but I refuse to play down Mangalore as well. While I will not forget Mumbai, i will also NEVER FORGET Mangalore.
"Kashmir is not India's fault."
Agreed, INACTION IF ANY would be India's fault. On the same lines , INACTION against HINDUTVA EXTREMISM will be India's biggest mistake. You can note down this one.:)
"A look at Pakistan or China's human rights record will tell you what human rights violation means and what oppression of women is in reality".
Ehhh??? This is not how I was taught to grow!! I dont look down, and feel good about where I am sitting, specially when there is hardly anyone down there. Simple analogy, in a class of 100 students, will you be happy being ranked 90Th, and then boast about the fact that there are 10 people below you or will you recognize the fact that there are 89 above you and do something about it??
Infact I kept reading this statement of yours again and again --> Are you telling me we are pathetic at "oppression of women" ?? and we should catch up fast with Pakistan and China?? I am sorry, you were Joking when you wrote this, right? or you are really happy that we are not the WORST?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
For a moment, just imagine yourself sitting in that pub with your close friends.
I have done it, and thats why I am so deeply hurt with what happened in Mangalore.Forget me,I just cannot imagine any of my close female friends getting molested/beaten up by a bunch of "goons" oops! terrorists rather.

EDITED TO ADD
Part 3
1)"But I will want to stress here that I was as shocked as any of you on seeing the Mangalore incident".
2)"I just framed my response without any sort of hyperventilation and sensationalism that the media displays so frequently."
Again same reaction --"ehh"?? Is this some kind of oxymoron? So you are saying you are as hurt as us, while at the same time, you dont understand the "hyperventilation" and "sensationalism"?
Ok, then let me tell you, that you are definitely not as hurt as us , DEFINITELY NOT!Its your PRESUMPTION that you are as hurt as us. Because for us, its not any sort of "hyperventilation" and "sensationalism"
1st of all, the prefix "hyper" --> Its your perspective, some of us dont think its "hyper".
That is why I said in my post "the incident did not Hurt his freedom nerve yet!". I have clearly understood your perspective, but you fail to understand ours. You clearly fail to undertsand how hurt we are?dont you?You can have a look at my previous post, where I speak of reasons why I wanted to avoid writing about Mangalore, it simply boils my blood and spoils my day.
And hopefully this will be my last post. I wana write about something nice now (phew!).
"I'm not against western culture at all and believe that India will improve if the best aspects of western culture are adopted by the people."
Nothing against you here, but we are not talking about WESTERN culture so much as we are talking about basic HUMAN CULTURE,HUMAN VALUES (out here) . And again, the definition of "best aspects" can be different for different people. Anyway, thats a seperate issue.
"My rejection of the words Taliban and terrorism is because of the larger threat of cross-border terrorism."
Your perspective again when you classify "cross-border terrorism" as a "larger threat". No one knows what CAN BECOME the "larger threat" TOMORROW. "Hindu-terrorism" looks like a strong contender already ( I know you are not supporting it, but I also know you fail to see what we are seeing ).
"Only a glance at the following videos will show you what the difference between India and the Taliban is"
You know, why I did not even have a look at those videos?Because I guess I know the difference between India and Taliban,I dont have to watch it now.BUT THAT IS NOT OUR POINT.
When we say "Taliban" or "Talibanised", we are using these words as Verbs. Its like saying "Can you google about blah blah topic". We do not mean, a xerox copy of Taliban, but something similar to it, and going in that direction.
In brief, I am explaining our concern AGAIN. :)
If you look at Taliban's history, it wasnt always this powerful, it became this powerful gradually, and everyone including US failed to see its potential when it was growing.Simliarly, what was SHIV SENA before the riots of Mumbai, and do you know how powerful it is today? We just CANNOT afford any other SENAS sucking India's blood for political gains, the ideology itself is too dangerous for us to let it develop further till it becomes a full fledged Taliban.
"I have no love lost for Hindu extremism and I believe that it exists. I was stunned as to why the Ram Sena activists got bail."
Much appreciated :-).
"Every media outlet is painting India the same way as the major human rights abusers of the world like Pakistan are. Even Indians themselves! Accept truth. Say that India isn't bad. Yes, incidents occur. Things are wrong. Definitely. But generalization is the greater evil."
Why dont you see it this way --> Atleast media GETS to "paint" something now, which means we are still far from loosing our hopes on freedom and democracy. The day Media stops "PAINTING" the wrong side, either India has become a perfect society ( Distant dream ) or we have completed the transition phase to TALIBANISATION where media has lost its freedom.
Why blame Media? Without media, these incidents will go un-noticed, which is worse that a lill "sensationalism " they create to enhance their TRPs. I am agreeing that sometimes they go too far and i curse them too, but we are talking about Mangalore specifically, and I am thankful to media for keeping the topic alive else we wouldnt have even known that such an incident happened.
"I've been outside India many a times and I dont like the 'general knowledge' about India that exists outside the country."
You have been out many times, and I am living in Singapore, I am earning my bread and butter here, I have friends here,I am aware of the 'general knowledge'. So, you dont want media to hype this incident, because you are worried about India's REPUTATION? Atleast it sounds like that. Hmmm..Thats not the right way to deal with it. Lets kill the problem instead. What say?
"Just a request. Please re-analyze my post.I've not played down Mangalore anywhere. Unless of course, you are interested in a media-style analysis and want to play up my words. ;-)."
I am not sure about "I've not played down Mangalore anywhere". I guess you unknowingly did.Make an Indian woman read your post and she will tell you if you have or if you havent.;-).
Your turn, you analyse our perspective again and let me know why you still think that we are
"Trivializing terrorism" and why cant we equate what happened in Mangalore with "terrorism", and why is media not justified in creating a sensation (for this particular incident) when some of us are so deeply SHOCKED that such an incident can happen in a DEMOCRATIC country?
Not playing with your words :-). Just double quoting you everywhere. And sorry about over-analysing if any.;-), I love it that way, helps me in building 'clarity of thought'.Thats why I love hearing perspectives. Its all about PERSPECTIVE.;-)
